Action at a neighbourhood or very local level is critically important in meeting community needs. Councils and their partners are exploring different ways of enabling action at this level in response to continued reduction in resources. Locality level governance is also being considered as a contribution to local government reform.
This is an area in which new ways of working and new forms engagement and empowerment are required. This is likely to involve bespoke arrangements which reflect the different needs and circumstances of different areas.
Our expertise in this area draws on three strands of experience:
- Evaluating activity of this type, including Locality’s Our Place programme;
- Helping councils to design and deliver initiatives such as place-based approaches to Ageing Well;
- Delivering the learning strand of the Big Local programme.
